Jack Fellows: FF-1 Fifi The Grumman FF-1 Fifi was the first naval fighter equipped with a retractable undercarriage, and the first American-designed and built naval warplane to see combat. The Spanish Republican Air Force received 40 export versions of the FF-1, which saw action during the Spanish Civil War of the late 1930s.
