One of twelve paintings by young Chinese artists which was featured on a special stamp sheetlet issued to commemorate PHILANIPPON '01 in Tokyo, Japan on August 1, 2001. Simple lines, brilliant color and outstanding compositional balance are distinctive features. Many of these paintings were created in an artistic style that reflects traditional Chinese painting -- fine detail, meditative landscapes and Chinese script. This baboon painting features a baboon on the back of an ox. A symbol of Chinese astrology, the ox represents strength and perseverance.
