The Lime family, with species spread from the tropics through the temperate zones, is a large family of nearly three hundred species. Several well-known Limes of the Northern Hemisphere are the Linden, the North American Bass Wood, and the Silver Lime. The Limes, with their thick foliage of heart-shaped leaves, are frequently planted as shade trees. These trees are also loved for their fragrant flowers which draw many honeybees to feast on the nectar.

This painting originally appeared on the Fleetwood® First Day Cover for the German Democratic Republic Lime Blossoms stamp Flora and Fauna of the World Collection issued January 10, 1978.
