Gary Greer: Elder Blossom A plant of the European continent which also thrives in western Asia and northern Africa, the European Elder, is a small tree or shrub which grows to a height of up to thirty feet. The leaves of the tree have between five and seven ovate leaflets. Small, creamy-white flowers develop in crowded, flat-topped clusters during the summer months. The outstanding feature of this woodland plant is the succulent fruit which is black when ripe.
