Basil Smith: Gnidia glauca (Flower) The African plant known as Gnidia grows chiefly in South Africa, Madagascar, Arabia, India and Ceylon. It is named for a town in Crete, Gnidus, which comes from an ancient Greek word meaning laurel. Gnidia is a flower- and fruit-bearing evergreen shrub that is sometimes used for landscaping in areas with appropriate weather conditions, such as California.
