Basil Smith: Bird of Paradise Flower The strikingly beautiful Bird of Paradise Flower is a native of Africa, but it is enjoyed in gardens across the world. It is named for its showy flowers which resemble a bird; Africans are even more specific, calling it the Crane Flower. The plant grows about four feet in height and the flowers are about eight inches in length. They are quite glamorous and exquisite.
