Basil Smith: American Ginseng - Panax quinquefolium In the past, ginseng was given to stop vomiting and convulsions, to soothe arthritis, to treat nervous disorders, dizziness, shortness of breath, fevers and headaches. It was also used to help stanch blood loss and given to babies to cure colic and croup. Today, tea made from the roots of American Ginseng is used as a tonic, a stimulant and even an aphrodisiac.
