Basil Smith: Potto Hanging from Tree Though it is small and slow, the Potto is well equipped with self-defense skills. This primate moves along branches in a measured, smooth way that makes it difficult for a predator to spot. When danger lurks, the Potto freezes and remains in the same position until the threat passes -- perhaps even hours later. In the event of an attack, it can repel the aggressor with a blow from the spiked vertebrae on its back.
