Basil Smith: Gorilla The Gorilla is one of man's closest relatives and is considered second only to humans in intelligence. Some Gorillas can even construct simple phrases when taught human sign language for the deaf. Even as youngsters, their behavior mirrors that of humans. Juvenile Gorillas spend carefree days climbing trees, chasing each other and playing tug-of-war. Much like human children who mimic their parents' behavior, young apes enjoy imitating adult Gorillas.
