Gene Jarvis: Allamanda Buttercup
The Allamanda Buttercup bears sunshine yellow flowers and is a member of the Apocynacea family. It is a family well-known for a wide assortment of spectacular tropical shrubs and trees. From the deep rose blossoms on the Mandevilla splendens to the fragrant flowers of the Frangipani, the family includes an array of color and fragrance rarely surpassed in the natural world. But of all the exotic members of its family, the Allamanda Buttercup is regarded as one of the loveliest of flowers. Known as the Golden Trumpet in many areas of the world, this brightly blossomed tropical plant indeed shines like gold. In Africa, the Allamanda Buttercup is sometimes trained to grow as a bush. This is achieved by constantly pinching back the stems. It is also used as a favorite home decoration. For this purpose, the lovely flowers are gathered in the cool of the day and allowed to open indoors. However, the blossoms must be floated in water when used in this way to prevent wilting. Whether growing in an attractive garden or blooming indoors, the Allamanda Buttercup is enjoyed as one of the most beautiful blossoms.
