In the mirror-like smoothness of a harbor, the reflections of several mighty Sea Eagles disappear as they swoop into the water to catch fish for their next meal. Distinguished by their immense size, strong yellow beaks that curve slightly upwards and short, white, wedge-shaped tails, Sea Eagles are rarely confused with other birds that range along the coastal waters. The birds' feet are extremely strong and their toes have powerful balls which make it easy for them to snatch their dinner from the waters. As adults, they sometimes hunt waterfowl. While one bird follows the waterfowl, another spreads his large wings and circles overhead. When the fowl emerges from a dive, the eagles swoop down and capture him for their dinner. In addition to these small fowl, Sea Eagles eat many fish and while they patrol the beaches for their next meals, their high-pitched calls can be heard all along the shore. The Sea Eagle builds huge nests which can be in reed beds, bushes or along coastal cliffs high in the air. Here, female Sea Eagles lay two or three small white eggs thirty-five to forty days after breeding in February or March. Usually one or two of the young die during the incubation period. So, in most cases, only one of the eggs hatches. Unfortunately, these birds have been brought almost to extincition in several countries.
