The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland includes the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and each of these is heir to a proud history and heritage all its own. Located on the Emerald Isle, Northern Ireland is renowned as the legendary home of the magical, mischievous leprechaun. To kiss the Blarney stone or touch a four-leafed shamrock are still said to hold the magical effects of good luck there. East of Northern Ireland is Scotland, where the eerie, discordant sighs of an old Scottish bagpipe tune can still be heard floating across rolling, green pastures. The bagpiper is usually clad in the traditional trim of old . . . with his tartan kilt of rich colors waving in the wind and a high, fluffy hat resting gently on his head. South and west of Scotland is the country of Wales. The Welsh people live in a rugged country of great mountainous beauty. To the east of Wales, one finds England . . . home of the pomp and ceremony of the British crown . . . and the gifted William Shakespeare. The plays of this exceptional playwright were often performed in London. Today, the bright red, double-decker buses still cruise the busy, narrow streets of this romantic city, and the famed London fog and soot-covered chimney sweeps are still a reality in this romantic city which is the epitome of the spirit of the entire United Kingdom.
