Tom Bjarnason: Falkland Islands Dependencies / Royal Wedding Remembered The moment the Prince and Princess of Wales emerged from St. Paul's Cathedral, they were greeted by the roar of an adoring crowd. It was a reception to overawe even a prince. As for Diana, she left her wedding as more than just a blushing bride ... she was now third lady of the realm. The crowd gathered outside the Cathedral had been very much a part of the festivities, for each sacred wedding vow had been broadcast into the streets. Each recitation was met with cheers of approval. Admittedly, there were falterings. For example, Prince Charles "I will" was foggy and Diana's was faint. In her nervousness -- which was understandable on such a momentous occasion -- Diana mixed up Prince Charles' rather cumbersome collection of Christian names, placing the Philip before Charles. Also, he forgot to mention that the goods he was sharing with her were merely worldly goods. But none of this mattered to the crowd gathered outside ... or to the congregation inside St. Paul's Cathedral. Rather, it emphasized the refreshing humanness of the Royal Couple and endeared them to the crowd that greeted them beyond the Cathedral doors. After months of preparation, the royal wedding was finally history. The twelve bells of St. Paul's Cathedral rang out in joyous celebration. Their carol drifted across London, carrying with it the best wishes of Britain and the entire world.
