Tom Bjarnason: Swaziland/Royal Wedding Remembered When Lady Diana accepted Prince Charles' proposal of marriage, she accepted a formidable challenge indeed, for not only was she marrying the heir to the throne, she was also marrying an extraordinary man. The Prince might well have chosen to stay cloistered behind palace walls. Instead, he opted to seek out the challenges life had to offer him. He enrolled in schools such as Hill House, Kinghtsbridge and Cheam School which allowed him to grow up amid ordinary youngsters outside Buckingham Palace. Later, as a student at Trinity College in Cambridge, he distinguished himself as a cellist and a polo-player. While still a student, the Prince's public role increased greatly. Yet, he artfully managed his life while still in school and after graduation to allow himself time for duties as Prince of Wales, to hold a seat in the House of Lords and meanwhile to gain experience in both the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. Today, as a graduate, naval officer, international polo player, jockey and royal ambassador, Prince Charles has earned the respect of the entire world. Indeed, when Lady Diana became his wife, she took a step of commendable courage. Now, she must not only accept the fierce demands of Prince Charles' public life, but she must also create a warm and inviting home for a man who has so completely dedicated himself to his country. As she embarks on her new life, Princess Diana can take courage from the fact that, of all the girls in Britain, Prince Charles felt her equal to the challenge.
