Tom Bjarnason: British Virgin Islands/Royal Wedding Remembered The sacred wedding vows uniting the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer in marriage had been spoken. Before the eyes of the entire world, the Royal Couple had joined hands to face the future together. The signing of the register, which was the legal record of their marriage, followed. Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and all those who were to sign the register were escorted to the Dean's Aisle. As the signing got underway, Miss Kiri Te Kanawa and The Bach Choir performed an Aria and Chorus from Samson by George Frederick Handel. Once the signing was complete, the radiant Royal Couple stood together -- as the Prince and Princess of Wales. Before them sat the crown heads of Europe, dignitaries from around the world, and the couple's families ... all aware of the great significance of the occasion and all wishing the Prince and his bride a bright future at the head of the realm. As the couple prepared to recess, the Princess of Wales paused momentarily to curtsey to The Queen before beginning her triumphal journey down the aisle on the arm of her Prince. As the Royal Couple made their way down the nave, they prepared to meet a throng of cheering Britons and visitors that had assembled from around the world to wish them well. They were leaving the Cathedral to meet their future, for the swelling crowd beyond the great portico would follow them all their married days ... en- tranced by the fairytale-like aura that surrounds British royalty.
