Tom Bjarnason: Lesotho/Royal Wedding Remembered Prince Charles' attendants and Lady Diana's bridesmaids were capable ... and endearing ... additions to the Royal Wedding. The older attendants -- Prince Edward, Prince Andrew and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones -- took on the monumental task of assisting the Royal Couple before, during and after the wedding ceremony. Lady Sarah, in particular, tackled an especially formidable task for she was charged with carefully steering Diana's flowing train, smoothing it and protecting it from damage on the way to the wedding ceremony. She performed admirably. As for the younger attendants, their duties were limited, but they were indeed a joy to behold. The boys, Lord Nicholas Windsor and Edward van Cutsem, looked like miniature soldiers as they marched up the aisle smartly dressed in Royal Navy Cadet uniforms of 1863 design. The girls were their perfect counterpart. Clothed in demure Victorian dresses belted with yellow sashes, they looked very much like small princesses themselves. The young bridesmaids were India Hicks, Sarah Jane Gaselee, Catherine Cameron and Clementine Hambro. Clementine and Catherine, the two youngest bridesmaids, who were only five and six years old, won the hearts of everyone in the congregation with their charming and child-like enthusiasm for the wedding. Together, the attendants enhanced the beauty of the ceremony and ensured that Charles' and Diana's glorious Royal Wedding was indeed the glittering spectacle of royal splendor all of Britain hoped it would be.
