Gene Jarvis: Bois Manioc The Bois Manioc plant is an ancient and distinctive product of Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean about five hundred miles east of Madagascar. A member of the primitive Flacourtiaceae family which is used in the study of plant evolution, the Bois Manioc produces round pods which burst open to reveal bright red berries. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood® First Day Cover for the Mauritius Bois Manioc stamp issued January 15, 1981. D Artwork Copyright © 1981 Unicover Corporation.
