Gordon Beningfield: Wall Brown Butterfly The Wall Brown can often be found flying in gardens and loves to bask in the warm sunshine on rocks and garden walls. It has a conspicuous eye-spot on its large forewing which plays a part in protecting it from birds. Birds will usually peck at the eye-spot rather than a vital part of the butterfly, allowing the delicate insect to escape.
