Gene Jarvis: Peregrin Falcon
The beautiful and agile Peregrine Falcon is a symbol for all that is raw, wild and unfettered. Though endangered, it is fairly widespread in the United States, living principally in canyons with perennial running water. It can also be found in man-made canyons: major U.S. cities. There, it will dine upon surplus pigeon populations. The Peregrine Falcon eats birds almost exclusively, catching them in mid-air with amazing swiftness; some biologists have estimated that it flies as fast as two hundred fifty miles-per-hour. In winter, the Peregrine Falcon will follow migratory prey south, returning the following spring.
