Erik Nitsche: Heuried Wohnsiedlung in Switzerland
Artist: Erik Nitsche
The Heuried Wohnsiedlung featured in this artwork is a complex of aprtment houses near Zurich. The apartments illustrate house-sized white profile portraits. These portraits are silhouettes of all the workers, bricklayers, painters, electricians, plumbers, and others who are connected with the building of this complex. It demonstrates what most people consider architecture to be -- a synthesis of technique and art. This building pays tribute to the people who were involved in constructing it. In architecture, it strikes a balance between mechanical technique and art.
