Duderstadt is one of the most beautiful framework cities of Germany and features a unique townscape. More than 500 half-timbered houses with marvelous carving work, inscriptions, figures and ornamentations can be traced back to the Renaissance. The first documentation of the city took place in the year 929 by Heinrich I.

Town Hall is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Germany and is the main landmark of the town. Standing beside the Town Hall, is the Westerturm with its screw-like point creating one of the strangest landmarks in the city. This turning is probably due to a constructional defect which over the course of time caused the tower to turn around its own axle.
