Erik Nitsche: Damaged Leaf
Artist: Erik Nitsche
A forest in its natural state changes little from year to year. But, with the intervention of man, a forest can suffer -- its very existence questioned in an incredibly short amount of time. For this reason, the forest needs to be watched, and maintained, so that it will continue to offer us its many gifts. In highly developed countries, forests are today respected for their contributions to our system of life -- for the important chemical balances they provide. But in many developing nations, where the forests are so plentiful, there is no maintenance. And there is no assurance that those forests so vital to our planetary survival will exist even a few hundred years from now.
