Lynette Hemmant

Margaret Lynette Hemmant was born in 1938 in London, spending her childhood in South Wales, Australia and Home Counties. She studied at St. Martin's School of Art in London, graduating in 1958. That year, Hemmant began her career in freelance illustration and worked primarily for the publishing house, Hamish Hamilton. She later worked for other publishing houses including the Heinemann Group. During this time, Hemmant also was commissioned as a portrait painter and her works have been exhibited in a one-man show in Bellagio, Italy. She has created numerous designs for popular children's books and literary works, including The Rubaiyat by Omar Khayam, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Hemmant has created designs for postage stamps as well, including a series of Christmas stamps issued by the Island of Guernsey.
