Gunter Jacki was born in 1936, in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. After graduating from high school, he worked at an art printing company and in
1958, applied for admission to the State Academy for the Visual Arts in Stuttgart, where he studied graphic design and book illustration.
Upon graduating, Jacki was offered a teaching position
at the university in the area of graphic design, specifically for script/type. The position was eventually changed into an assistant professorship. In 1980, he became a full professor for
typography and script.
While teaching, Jacki pursued opportunities beyond the university to create designs as an independent contributor for publishing houses, the German Federal Postal
Administration, and many other clients.
