Barbara Brown
British 1942 -

Barbara Brown was born in Surrey, England, in 1942, and has spent most of her life in London. She studied at Hornsey College of Arts and Crafts and at the Royal College of Art, specializing in graphic design and book illustration. Upon completing her studies, Brown began her career as a freelance designer and illustrator. Her works have been published in numerous books and magazines. In recent years, Brown became interested in using her talents to design stamps. Her first venture in this field was a handsome series of stamps celebrating the Jane Austen bicentenary in 1975. She later created stamps featuring Victorian women writers. Brown has continued creating beautiful stamps as well as First Day Cover designs to complement postage stamps, including delightful illustrations featuring popular Christmas carols. She has also designed artwork for commemorative boxes marking the centenary of the Savoy Theatre, portraying scenes and characters from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
