Tom Lydon
American 1944 -

Born in 1944, Tom Lydon studied oil painting and illustration at the American Academy of Art. He has worked for several years as a commercial artist producing various forms of advertising materials such as corporate brochures and magazine ads. Lydon has also illustrated four Ted E. Bear children's books. Ted E. Bear is best known as The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas, a highly-rated animated television program that airs during the holiday season. Lydon works in a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and ink. A skillful portraitist, he says, "I strive to create the feeling of a real presence. . . My painting is not complete until it's looking back at me." Lydon enjoys many kinds of visual art, including representational, abstract and conceptual. He comments, "In representational art, I prefer stylization and embellishment to accuracy."
