Basil Smith was born in Hove, Sussex,
England, and was educated at Xaverian College, Brighton, where his artistic talent was quickly recognized. He later studied at Brighton School of Art. After serving in the Navy during World War
II, Smith completed his art training at Brighton. He then worked in various advertising agencies in London while pursuing and gaining recognition as an accomplished designer and painter. His
spectacular works have been exhibited in various galleries in England and the United States, including the Botanical Artists' Exhibitions at Westminster and Hampton, and the Sussex Wildlife
Artists at the Booth Natural History Museum. His talent for drawing automobiles resulted in his election to the Guild of Motoring Artists. Smith believes that art is a universal language that
speaks to people all over the world.
